Maunakai Media was founded by Maarten Huisman.
After finishing his education at the University of Sports, he started working in the boardsports business. And after being employed by F2 and O'Neill, Maarten started his own company. His kiteboardschool 'Maunakai Boardsports' has been the place to be for safe and professional kiteboard lessons for four years. With the knowledge he accuired as examiner for both snowboardinstructors (for the Nederlandse Ski Verenigng) and kiteboardinstructors (for the International Kiteboarding Organization), Maarten ended up in the editorial staff of Soul Media. He mostly wrote technical articles about almost all the aspects of these sports. When the soul-sports-magazine decided to make seperate issues for windsurfing, kiteboarding, surfing, snowboarding and skiing, he became chief editor for Access Kiteboard Magazine and kept producing articles for the other magazines.

Due to the lack of good, simple sport specific photos needed to make a magazine for every kiteboarder, Maarten started making the photos he really needed himself. With great fanatism, a good eye for detail and a creative approach, he now is an international operating photographer.
